Fury in the Slaughterhouse
I did both the offline edit and the online finishing work for this music video. Back in the heyday of music videos, I worked on dozens of them in every capacity.
“Every Generation Got Its Own Disease” was a song by the popular German band, Fury In The Slaughterhouse. It which was a hit in its day and this piece played a lot on MTV. But the real star of this video was the director, Doug Aitken. He went on to become a major visual artist, exhibiting his work in top museums worldwide.
It was a thrill to work with Doug, whose task was to make an American version of the original German music video. Many of the visual effects he achieved in-camera shooting himself with a 16mm Bolex. For example, he purposely threaded the film incorrectly to achieve the “flutter” effect in some of the images.
He also encouraged experimentation in the edit. Very fun project to work on.
