Tennis Channel - "Best of Three"
These clips are samples from two of several episodes I edited for Tennis Channel’s series “Best of Three.”
At first I have to admit I was a bit skeptical of the premise: former world No. 5 tennis champion, Daniela Hantuchova, competes with some of her famous tennis friends on the golf course. Is that going to be interesting?
But when I mentioned it to a tennis enthusiast, the reply was, “Definitely! I would watch that.”
Turns out Daniela Hantuchova has a talent for getting her fellow tennis stars to open up about themselves and their careers. And a golf course is an ideal place for getting know someone, with lots of time for long conversations.
I sifted through those and focused on what I found most interesting – for example, heartfelt insights into becoming aware of one’s own potential and exploring what it takes to be a great athlete by comparing tennis and golf. Mix it up with some fun competition, and we had a show!
One thing an editor can’t avoid when reviewing material, is listening in when the subjects seem to forget they’re on mic. I learned a lot more about these tennis stars than appears in the series!
